Toni – Marie

TONI-MARIE  is a curator, culture writer and filmmaker. Their experimental horror short film BEAUTY STANDARDS made its international premiere at Berlin Feminist Film Week. The film continues to screen at homes for experimental film such as Acid Free Los Angeles Art Book Market, The Philosophical Research Society, Nuevo León, MX based festival Esto Es Para Esto, The Art Theatre of Long Beach, and the Eureka University Film Festival in Botogå, Colombia. Their comedic web series “Full Movie Here,” in which each episode subverts male-dominated blockbusters, garnered 16k views on YouTube, and was featured in the digital publications of IndieWire and Glamour. They are the founder of Queer Film Club (q.f.c)., a film salon and digital journal that sparks playfully critical conversations around the medium and the function of identity in media. The initiative has been in partnership with UCLA, Outfest, Other Peoples Films, Magnolia Pictures, and has received support from the Long Beach Arts Council. Their curation and programming focus has been in narrative independent queer film, and they are drawn to transgressive themes, either in its form, content, or through its production. Toni-Marie has served on juries for short films for institutions such as Q Films Festival, Q26 Showcase, Art Theatre of Long Beach, WIF Shorts Night, among others. Toni’s gaze and voice is informed by avant-garde counterculture film and performance, the New Wave film movements, and cyber and intersectional feminism. They descend from Tijuanero Braceros naturalized in the 1960s, with strong ties to mystical societies, unions, and L.A. party crews.
